Personalize Media

Personalize Media
The weblog of Gary Hayes. An extract:

What is Personalization?

1 - the filters through which we have services and media tailored to us and
2 - the design of services and content that are flexible enough to resonate with others on a one to one, or one to few level.

Real-time personalization: Where it get’s spooky. Based on what users are doing the interface or content presented changes dynamically in real time. Very resonant and where future interfaces and story-telling type applications are heading. Of course the more dynamic the system the more it resembles artificial intelligence.

Participatory culture and podcasting

iGeneration: Daily Source Code Evaluation.....

"Patterns of media consumption have been profoundly altered by a succession of new media technologies which enable average citizens to participate in the archiving, annotation, appropriation, transformation, and recirculation of media content. Participatory culture refers to the new style of consumerism that emerges in this environment." – Henry Jenkins

Podcasting is all about consumers becoming producers; as Henry Jenkins has argued, “…The Net opened up new space for public discussions of media content and the Web became an important showcase for grassroots cultural production”. Traditional radio producers did not take full advantage of the digital revolution and opportunities created by the internet. Radio’s only venture into the online domain was simply audio streaming of their broadcast station.
